Dimlight Interview
September 2, 2012 (via Skype)

The Greek gothic metal band, Dimlight, caught our eye with their video for “RID,” which is a combination music video and mini-horror movie. (We have it on good authority that, despite his serial-killer vibe in the video, Invoker is actually a prince of a fella.) After being a strong contender in the Greek metal scene, Dimlight band is ready to break out worldwide with their follow-up release, Psychosynthesis. Contrary to the all-too-frequent sophomore slump, the band returns with a tighter, more focused album than their debut, Obtenebration. Good stuff!

Dimlight

Sonic Cathedral’s Robin Stryker sat down with vocalist, Sanna Salou, to talk about all things Dimlight. Dive in for Sanna’s take on Psychosynthesis, the Greek invasion of Metal Female Voices Fest, Spartan hearts, and much more!

Kamelot's new singer Tommy Karevik

Kamelot

Every now and then, we at Sonic Cathedral like to branch out from our focus on female-fronted rock and metal to cover other bands that our readers may like. Kamelot certainly fits that criteria. This multi-national power metal band has won over legions of fans worldwide with driving melodies, buoyant symphonics, and the use of female vocalists in their studio albums and live shows. Europe still appears to be where Kamelot’s popularity is strongest. But here in North America, the band’s fanbase is growing into an equally dedicated following.

In September 2012, Kamelot returned to North America as the support act for Nightwish’s headlining tour. It was also the first chance for fans on this side of the Atlantic to meet the band’s new frontman, Swedish singer Tommy Karevik. (You may already be familiar with Tommy as the voice of the progressive metal band Seventh Wonder.) Sonic Cathedral staff writer Sara Letourneau sat down with Tommy before Kamelot’s explosive set in Worcester on September 17. Read on to learn what he had to say about the tour, Kamelot’s upcoming album Silverthorn, the band’s latest female guest vocalists, and much more!

Performed in August 2012 (via phone)

When the French electro-symphonic metal band, Elyose, first arrived on the scene in 2009, they were sporting an extra “l” (as Ellyose) and a six-track EP to introduce the world to their mix of electronic, techno, dance, industrial, trance and classical music. Fast forward to 2012, and Elyose is poised for a break-through. Their full-length debut, Théogyne, wowed the Sonic Cathedral staff with its razor-tight composition and hypnotic vocal work. (Read Doctor T’s 10/10 review here) And, oh yeah, Therion also agrees … Elyose have been tapped for an opening slot on Therion’s entire European tour.

Elyose

During a break from tour prep, Sonic Cathedral caught up with vocalist, Justine Daaé, to chat about Théogyne, the stomach flutters that go along with sailing into uncharted territory, Justine’s non-musical passions, and much more! Dive in for a closer look at Elyose.
